Who We Are

How do I become a Christian? Do you: *Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for you and rose from the grave? (ICor. 15:3,4). *Admit that you are a sinner? (Do you do things God does not like?) (Romans 3:23). *Agree to turn from sin to God, as best you know how, right now? (Acts 20:21). *Acknowledge Jesus is Lord? Are you willing to turn your life over to God and let Him run it? (Romans 10:9). *Accept God’s gift of salvation? It is a gift, you cannot earn it. (Ephesians 2:8,9).

Are there different ways to join? Yes, there are several. (1) By professing your faith in Jesus Christ (becoming a Christian) and following Him in baptism by immersion. (2) By transfer of your “letter” from another Southern Baptist Church. (3) By your statement of faith in Christ, and that you have experienced baptism by immersion after salvation. (4) By statement of faith from another denomination that does not practice baptism by immersion which indicates your willingness to be baptized by immersion.

When do I join? At the close of every worship service we sing a hymn and extend an invitation to join our church or to make a decision of another type, such as a profession of faith in Christ or a rededication of your life. This is the time to come forward and make a public profession of your decision. The pastor will be at the front during this period.

What about my children? At First Baptist we believe children should receive special attention. If your child is ready to “make a decision,” he or she may come forward during the invitation. The pastor will counsel with your child.

May I be a Bible Study (Sunday School) class member and not a church member? Yes, some are. This is not church membership but it is a great opportunity to participate in Bible Study as well as make new friends. It is not necessary to be a member of a Sunday School class in order to attend.
